Tony Lee 3-14-14 A day after President Barack Obama’s White House announced that it would be conducting a review to see whether it can flout more immigration laws and be even more lenient with deportations, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) threatened Republicans: pass amnesty or watch Obama curtail deportations.
“It’s crystal clear where the issue of immigration reform is headed, and Republicans have only two choices to make,” Schumer wrote on his Facebook page on Friday. He said Republicans “can either help pass comprehensive reform,” or “they can sit idly by and watch the President greatly curtail deportations while 11 million continue to live in limbo here in America.”
Schumer, who was one of the co-authors of the Senate’s immigration plan that the Congressional Budget Office determined would lower the wages of American workers, claimed without evidence that amnesty legislation will “greatly reduce the flow of illegal immigrants.” He also said that importing more foreign workers would help the economy without mentioning how much it would hurt American workers.
Schumer has been urgently pushing for immigration legislation because he realizes–and has admitted–that this year may be the last chance for significant amnesty legislation to pass.
