For one thing there has been a noticeable expansion of the great belt of dry, high-altitude polar winds —the so-called circumpolar vortex—that sweep from west to east around the top and bottom of the world.’ Another Ice Age? – TIME  Forty years later, Time Magazine blames the cold polar vortex on global warming   Al Gore’s Final Countdown for the Polar Ice Caps Expires, complete with video of Al warning in 2008 that “the entire North ‘polarized’ cap will disappear in 5 years.” http://pjmedia.com/eddriscoll/2014/01/07/time-magazine-swings-both-ways/

The Supreme Court has refused a group of doctors’ request to block implementation of the nation’s new health care law. Chief Justice John Roberts turned away without comment Monday an emergency stay request from the Association of American Physicians & Surgeons, Inc. and the Alliance for Natural Health USA.   They asked the chief justice Friday to temporarily block the law, saying Congress had passed it incorrectly by starting it in the Senate instead of the House. Revenue-raising bills are supposed to originate in the lower chamber. They also wanted blocked doctor registration requirements they say will make it harder for independent non-Medicare physicians to treat Medicare-eligible patients.http://www.theminorityreportblog.com/2014/01/07/roberts-protects-obamacare-again/

Although the federal government is spending more than $22 billion to encourage hospitals and doctors to adopt electronic health records, it has failed to put safeguards in place to prevent the technology from being used for inflating costs and overbilling, according to a new report by a federal oversight agency.  http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/08/business/report-finds-more-flaws-in-digitizing-patient-files.html?_r=0

Alfred Hitchcock’s unseen Holocaust documentary to be screened. The British Army Film Unit cameramen who shot the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945 used to joke about the reaction of Alfred Hithcock to the horrific footage they filmed. When Hitchcock first saw the footage, the legendary British director was reportedly so traumatised that he stayed away from Pinewood Studios for a week. Hitchcock may have been the king of horror movies but he was utterly appalled by “the real thing”.   Now, finally, the film is set to be seen in a version that Hitchcock, Bernstein and the other collaborators intended.  Both the original film about the camps and the new documentary will be shown on British TV in early 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of the “liberation” of Europe. Before that, next year, they are due to be shown together at festivals and in cinemas. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/alfred-hitchcocks-unseen-holocaust-documentary-to-be-screened-9044945.html

The Federal Reserve is Hiring Lots of New Armed Police Officers -Mirroring a trend seen across the federal government, the Federal Reserve is hiring a raft of new police officers and security guards, developments that some see as preparation for civil unrest. – See more at: http://www.teaparty.org/federal-reserve-hiring-lots-new-armed-police-officers-32840/#sthash.1XmoM4VT.dpuf

I’ll never forget watching the manhunt for one teenager after the Boston bombing while militarized storm trooper police raided neighborhoods and dragged people (some of them nearly naked) from their homes with their hands over their heads without warrants. The idea that our police drive armored tanks down suburban streets with gun turrets carrying weapons that not even Saddam Hussein owned made me far more terrified than the idea of a lone bomber on the loose. Watching my fellow Americans be ripped out of their homes without cause and forced to run down the street without looking back while police invaded their lives and privacy was chilling. This was all in the name of safety. I remember at the time I thought, “Oh, the lawsuits are going to be expensive!” but I don’t think anyone sued.  Since then, I’ve noticed more stories about the militarization of local police and harassment of citizens happening at an alarming rate across this country.  [I know what you are thinking.  You wonder if these words are mine, as I bring police-gone-storm-trooper stories to you and have written about the Boston incidents.  These are NOT my words, but those of Megan Fox of Fox News who writes of her intimidation by a local library board who uses the police to try to stop  her.  Our American is changing.....]  http://pjmedia.com/lifestyle/2014/01/06/the-price-i-paid-for-fighting-for-a-library-free-of-porn-and-sex-offenders/?singlepage=true

Checkpoints, which the government insists are voluntary, are creating a backlash because of the presence of uniformed police officers. Some police departments won’t participate anymore. In an era of rampant distrust of the federal government and in the wake of the Obama administration’s National Security Agency surveillance scandal in which the agency has collected telephone calling records from millions of unsuspecting Americans, the checkpoints have come under intense criticism in several cities this year.  http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/01/06/government-checkpoints-driving/4265633/

Krauthammer on Gates’ revelations about Obama: ‘How can a commander-in-chief do that?’  “Obama doesn’t believe in the surge or in the war, or in his own actions,” Krauthammer said, “He doesn’t believe in [General] Petraeus, he hates [Afghan President] Karzai, he thinks the war isn’t his. How can a commander-in-chief do that?”  However, Krauthammer said Gates’ confirmation of this is “an indictment of the president that rises above everything else he’s done in his presidency.”  [And will he say, "At this point in time, what difference does it make!"]  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/01/07/krauthammer-on-revelations-about-obama-how-can-commander-in-chief-do-that/?cmpid=cmty_twitter_fn
